12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

I love Christmas, so I couldn’t not get involved with this book tag!

This tag was started by Nicola over at The Fantastic Book Dragon.  And I have the lovely Lorraine Ambers to thank for tagging me.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: a partridge in a pear tree….

…The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favorite stand alone?

So hard to choose, because I mostly read stand alone stories, and there are many hundreds of wondrous novels that I adore. However, I will have to go with The Book Thief – Markus Zusak. Such a beautiful, devastating and heart-warming tale, and with a love of books and words at its core.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: two turtle doves….

…Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

I’m not much of a romantic, but if I since childhood, and still today, I have adored Ron and Hermione. I always loved the two of them together. A lot of people thought it was a bit of a cliche/cop out when they got together, but all the signs are there throughout in such little ways, as well as the bigger ones towards the end.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Three French Hens…

…In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

I’m tempted to say the Divergent series. Veronica Roth was so young when she wrote and published these and I always find that inspiring. But I loved how the ending (no spoilers, don’t worry) was the most likely outcome, and although Roth would’ve known it might upset/annoy a lot of people, it just felt like a true ending to me. So I loved that.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: four calling birds…

…Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

I am such a giant, huge Harry Potter nerd. It will always be Harry Potter, those books have such an important place in my heart.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: five golden rings…

…One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

This is so vague, I apologise, but basically all antagonists from Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. All were so well embedded into the story, and I love that series. So dark, so mysterious, so deep.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: six geese a laying…

…Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

Westeros. A Song of Ice and Fire. So many beautiful descriptions of the many places in these stories, bought to life brilliantly in the TV shows. Truly captivating, and so clever.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: seven swans a swimming…

…Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Going back to The Dark Tower series, but probably Oy from those books. Especially as he is the cause of one of my favourite book quotes of all time:

“Oh Christ, I left my world to watch a kid put shoes on a fucked-up weasel. Shoot me Roland, before I breed.” – Eddie Dean, Wizard and Glass – Stephen King

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: eight maids a milking…

…Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

Tricky one. I feel like I need to go back to Harry Potter, yet again! As a child, I was in awe of the sweets and treats on offer in the wizarding world, and I used to dream of how delicious Butterbeer would be. (Sad truth, but I’ve since tried the Butterbeer at the Theme Park and I actually hated it haha!)

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: nine ladies dancing….

…Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

I really love Louisa Clark from Me Before You. I love her optimism, and how she is always true to herself and her feelings. This is especially the case with book Louisa because although I adore the film, her story line is much deeper and sadder in the books and the way she pushes through it all is inspiring.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: ten lords a leaping…

…How about your favourite leading lad?

Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. He is me, and me is he. I love him.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: eleven pipers piping…

…What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I’m going to reference Perks again, from above. Because Charlie’s music taste in my music taste, and although the story isn’t about music it is a huge part of his life. He makes mix-tapes, and buys vinyl and listens to the music I love.

…On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 12 drummers drumming.

…Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

Such a tricky question, read some gems this year. But I’ll go with You Let Me In by Lucy Clarke because she is my favourite author, and I loved this year’s release so, so much.

  1. I haven’t read any of the Steven King novels yet, but I always keep an eye out for them when I visit book stores. I had no idea he wrote so many fantasy novels.
I’m also presently surprised by how many novels you’ve read that I’ve loved too – United by books.
    Thanks for taking part. 😊💕
